This week we headed over to Fowlerville and my mom said that she did not want to go to Fowlerville Farms again. So, we decided to check out the place right next door in the old Big Boy: The Great Lakes Family Restaurant.
While I was doing research online I read that the owners used to own a restaurant in Pinckney but they ended up moving out because of problems with the landlord. When I compared the menu and the décor I decided it was probably The Lakes Grille (I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but I used to go there a lot in High School) and that was a great restaurant, so I was excited to check this place out.
Inside it looks just like Big Boy, but the ceiling is painted with like the sky with clouds and birds and there are little lighthouse figurines scattered about. I do have to say the service is better than any Big Boy I’ve ever been to (it seems that whenever I go to Big Boy the server either never comes or forgets about me).
The menu is similar to what you would find at any family restaurant with dinners, Coneys, salads, sandwiches, etc. They do have a fairly large Senior menu and a a bunch of yummy looking pies (I was too stuffed to try one…next time). My one complaint is that if you order a sandwich is it $2.90 to add fries, which is pretty high in my opinion.
Anyway, both my grandma & I both ordered the chicken tenders which came with choice of soup, salad, or cole slaw. I tried the salad with ranch and it was a pretty big side salad, but the lettuce was really wet. All the dressing ran off it, it was strange. My grandma also had a salad and she couldn’t even finish hers. The dinner consisted of 5 strips of breaded chicken and about a pound of french fries, I am not kidding. I took half of them home and couldn’t finish them the second day, it was crazy (I guess they have to give you a ton to justify $2.90 extra. They were included with the chicken tenders, though)
My mom tried a wrap (I’m blanking on the name and they do not have a menu online) which had chicken tenders, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and green peppers in it with ranch dressing. She said it was delicious! She added the fries and Cole Slaw and when she saw how much she got, she realized we should’ve all just split the ones that came with the tenders. She only ate half of her wrap and took the rest home
We were definitely impressed with this restaurant. The food was good and they gave you more for less than Fowlerville Farms. We would probably go here again before we’d go back to the Farms.
Sorry for no photo once again. I will try to remember to take picture for the next post!
